近年來臺灣社會少子化的現象，為高教環境帶來很大的危機，學校經費不足，在節省經營成本的前提下，圖書館再次面臨人力和經費短少的困境。基於此，本文就圖書館所處環境的改變－數位內容的快速成長、圖書館使用者的本質改變－線上資源的使用重於紙本資源、圖書館在母機構行政組織結構的改變－圖書館與電算中心合併等三個面向，探討學術界對圖書館在數位時代何去何從的看法。最後呼籲，圖書館從業人員應重新思考，圖書館的本質、核心價值為何？我們也應該重新定義圖書館的願景、任務和手段，讓圖書館能再次為人民和社會創造意義。

The emergence of electronic storage, retrieval, and dissemination of knowledge has changed how people access, create and share information in digital information world. The 'Google generation', defined as those born after 1993, have different aptitudes, attitudes, expectations, information literacy, and information behaviors and that these will transfer to their use of libraries and information services. Libraries face big challenges in this age. So, librarians should rethink and answer the following questions: What is the essence of library's work? What is the core value of libraries? What is it that libraries cannot survive without libraries? What are the purposes, mission of libraries in digital age? How can library information services meet the information needs of people in the future?
