Objectives: Corporate social responsibility (CSR) is more highlighted in the hospital
setting; however, hospitals in Taiwan have not yet universalized the implementation of
social responsibility sustainability reports. This article conducted a follow-up survey and
analysis of public information related to the implementation of social responsibility in
domestic hospitals.
Methods: The data about whether the internet and official website of Taiwan hospitals
have public information declaring the implementation of CSR, whether they have
issued a CSR report, and whether their public information and reports follow the ESG
(Environmental, Social, Governance) standards were collected and analyzed in March
2021. The “Sustainability Temperature Index” was used to examine the hospital’s
investment in sustainable development issues.
Results: Thirteen hospitals that announced and implemented public information related
to the sustainable development of social responsibility through the search on the official
website accounted for only 3.1% of Taiwan hospitals. Sixteen hospitals issued a CSR
report for people to download, accounting for 3.8% of Taiwan hospitals. The average
scores of various sustainable temperature indexes after 2018 have increased compared to
before 2017.
Conclusions: The proportion of Taiwan hospitals publicly declaring the implementation
of social responsibility and ESG sustainable development is still not high. The joint
efforts of the government, society and hospitals are needed to promote and implement the
sustainable development of hospitals and society.
