Filial Piety, one of the main teachings of Confucius, has often been regarded as the proper ways a child shows his love and respect to parents. An analysis of this concept in the old classics (e.g. Hsiao Ching or the Book of Filial Piety and others) from the psychological viewpoint, however, reveals that filial piety deals much more than mere parent-child relationships. It involves the principles of self-development, general interpersonal relationships and one's everyday adjustment. It seems that filial conducts, when performed with correct understanding, would• not cause inconvenience or difficulty in modern family life. A survey with an anonymous questionnaire reveals that over 85% of Chinese adolescents feel that filial piety is still necessary in modern societies. Their suggestions concerning its practice is included in this article. Variables such as age, sex, and educational status have caused little differences in such opinions.
