The purpose of this study centers on realization of the experiment with Newly-promulgated Curriculum standard for the various Elementary Schools, implementation of guidance activity, its effects, problems as well as the solutions of the problems, to serve as a reference for furthering the development of guidance work at the elementary schools. This paper deals with the Newly-promulgated Curriculum Standard for the Elementary Schools assigned as experimentation by Ministry of Education. Besides, this paper also brings in important survey gathering experimental data from 63 experimented Elementary Schools and experimental comments from 371 pupil advisors of the first-year pupils of Elementary Schools. The survey shows as follows: 1. Of 63 experimented schools, 61.9% schools have not established Children Guidance Center as regulated; 71.43% schools have not alloted money for guidance activity; 64.52% schools have started establishing a partial data concerned; 65% schools have not placed counselling room; 53% schools have not used the teacher's manual for guidance activity; 72.27% schools have not established student's individual case. 2. The guidance activity at the Elementary Schools has not been periodically scheduled. 173 teachers (occupying 48.73%) consider it undesirable, and most of them recommend that 30 or 40 minutes per week for the guidance activity be periodically scheduled. 3 . More than 92% teachers consider that the said activity should be carried out through such courses as school-life, discipline, ethics, health education and group activities. Besides it requires to conduct in keeping with such courses as singing and playing, social science, Chinese language and fine arts. 4. 262 teachers (occupying 72.38%) consider that a student's manual or something for guidance activity is required to be compiled for student's reference. 5. 98.87% teachers consider that the guidance work at the Elementary Schools should be performed by those who have the experience in the instruction of the Elementary School courses. 6. 98.87% teachers should be given the guidance training while 72.78% of them advocate that the standard of the special training be set down based on the equivalent level of junior college and 26.11% of others advocate that they be given based on the equivalent level of the colleges or higher. 7. The Elementary School teachers here in Taiwan consider that the most important curriculum for the Elementary School teachers to take during the said education should be listed in order of children psychology, research on the problem of children behavior, introduction to guidance for the Elementary Schools, mental health, psychological tests, and evaluation, etc. Writer offers the following recommendations according to the findings from this survey: 1. To clarify the role played by the guidance teachers at the Elementary Schools. 2. To strengthen cultivating the Elementary School teachers specialized in guidance. 3. To establish the employment system for guidance personnel at the Elementary Schools. 4. To establish qualification standards certified system for guidance personnel. 5. To stress communication of ideas and coordination. 6. To allot money for guidance work and facilities. 7. To beef up experiment and research on the guidance activity at the Elementary Schools.
