     What and why of preventive mental health for children and why of diagnosing how children think, and how these two sets of questions can be coordinated will be the thrust of this paper. The value of understanding how children think was investigated through a search for simultaneous occurrence of cognitive and affective development in the school child. Subjects were drawn from a public school in the suburb of Taipei, Taiwan (R. O. C.). Results of thispilot study warrants further elaboration of similar research effort,
