The advent of computer has triggered the explosion of human knowledge of today. There are omnifarious periodicals published in the world: quantitatively, their number is so huge that we may say they are numberless; qualitatively, their contents cover every detailed respect of human activities, both mental as well as physical. Periodicals of today are not only the indispensable references in our quest for knowledge, but also the main information sources of any data bases in developing a nation-wide information network. Thus reveals the importance of periodicals in the realm of learning. Compilation of the periodical catalogues is a necessary means to promote the use of the publications. To ensure a successful compilation, one should first maintain sound theoretical ground, then he can develop accurate and through techniques and methods. Derived from his years' experiences in the library science, the author, with a goal in mind to establish a standard procedure, discussed in this article four fundamental views and fourteen methods in the compilation of periodical catalogues.
