The article presents the view of 147 librarians on in-service training and continuing education, as expressed in replies to a postal questionnaire (October 1983). Needs for staff development are discussed. Significant differences in findings by types of personnel, sex, marital status and age group are presented, and also recommendations to the Library Association of China, the library schools, and planners of continuing education activities.
