Bibliographic control implies the activities in provision complete bibliographic records of all bibliographic items as published or to be published, and provision of bibliographic access through compilation and distribution of systematic bibliographies or union list for use. The history of bibliography compilation in China can be traced back to A.D. 213, and with a great variety, too. However, a comprehensive system is still to be established. This article reviewed the various bibliographies and indexes compiled in the Republic of China after 1911, pointed out the pressing needs for bibliographic control in this country, and the ways to be seeked after.
