The development of archives management in the Taiwan area has always been limited by the shortage of budget, personnel, etc. There isn't any professional association either, no matter in pubic or private sector. Therefore, it is not easy to stipulate the regulations and standards, which are required for the establishment of an archives management system to be used generally throughout the country. Many Western countries have already employed computer technology to assist the administration of archives, and even formed networks for easy access and resource sharing. This article appeals the R. O. C. to establish its own archives management standards, unified format for card catalog, and MARC Format for Archives, to the compilation of subject headings and thesaurus, and to the founding of an Archives Association.
