This article is to study the development of college and university libraries during the past 35 years in Taiwan. For looking back the development before 1982, the author cited some statistic results from the investigation of university and college libraries in 1972 and 1982. In the meantime, this article attemps to analyze the current devlepoment of university and college libraries, and college libraries, and compares the results with those obtained in the investigation of 1972 & 1982. Purposely, it tries to find out some problems existing in our college and university libraries. In conclusion, the importance of university and college libraries has been recognized, but there are some efforts we should pay to improve them, e.g., the professization of personnel, the promotion of service quality, and the execution of functions for instruction and supporting research.
