The utilization of CD-ROM in the library and information science areawent
back to the year 1985 when Bibliofile was first announced by the Library Cooperation.
With its enormous storage, retrieval capabilities andreasonable price, CD-ROM has
been gradually replacing some of its printedcounterpart, libraries in Taiwan have
always encountered the problems ofinsufficient budget and limited space, also, they
are not behind in libraryautomation, many universities have acquired this high-tech
product accordingly. Currently, 86.5 of the academic libraries have included
CD-ROM intheir library collections in diverse subjects. This paper analyzes the
resultfrom one survey done in June 199U among the forty-three academic librariesin
Taiwan.
