Is library science a science? The author investigates this issue from various
aspeets. From the definition and characteristics of science, the author suspeets that
library science could be called as a "science" The author then compares the status of
librarian with physician and lawyer, the results show that librarian lacks of the power
of physician and lawyer. Upon this, the author concludes that even librarian clains
his/her profession as a "science". It contributes not much to his/her status. The better
way would be to do more research to understand the problems of librarianship and
to know his/her reader better. Those research may help librarian to identify the
fundamental problems in his/her field and find the solutions. In the long run those
solutions may help librarian to improve his her status, and to help librarianship to
become a real "science".
