Despite that the effort of The Cataloging & Classification Committee of
TheLibrary Association of China is admirable, the revisions seem to be not totally
unquestionable.
Closer studies on the chapters 2, 3, 5, and 6 caused some serious questioningabout the
approaches to the revision. First of all, shouldn't the revision of ChineseCataloging
Rules be a lot more than following the steps of the 1988 AACR 2?? Secondly,
shouldn't the goals of Chinese Cataloging Rules be extended to collections other than
Chinese books? Finally, shouldn't a publication like this paymore attention to the
format, especially to type face, since we librarians tend tocriticize the other people's
publications in this aspect?
This review attempts to express four primary expectations: enlargement oftask targets
and goals, engagement with international communities, endeavoring toseek for
outside support, and enacting a long-range project.
