與一九五○年代許多學者所期待的正好相反，二十世紀末的宗教政治活動，在世界各地，顯得特別活躍。本文在簡論宗教與政治的定義以及政教類型之後，首先代表性地描述了儒教、印度教、佛教、伊斯蘭教以及基督宗教在當代開發中國家的政治活動，繼之，指出一些解釋這些活動的理論，最後結論認為，開發中國家的許多人民，雖然目前由於對資本主義或社會主義開發嘗試失敗的不滿而訴諸宗教來解決他們的生活和政治問題，但倘若宗教不能如同預期地改善他們生活時，他們仍會轉向另一個俗世的意識型態來企圖滿足渴求改善生活的慾望。

Contrary to many scholars' expectation in the 1950s, religion is still very active politically throughout the world today. After a brief discussion of the definitions of religion and politics as well as the types of religio-political relationships, this article first selectively but representatively describes present polictical activities of Confucianism, Buddhism, Hinduidm, Islam and Christianity in the developing countries, then presents some theories developed to explain these activities and concludes that although disillusioned by both Capitalist and Socialist ideologies, many people in the developing countries recur to religion to solve their problems, they may very well replace religion again with another secular ideology if religion fails, as it did so before, to satisfy their hunger for a better life.
