The aseismic capacity of 130 RC school buildings in Tainan city area were evaluated in this investigation. The evaluation methods recommended by The Building Research Institute of Interior Department were adopted. The evaluation shows that 90% of the school buildings evaluated whose aseismc capacity is lower than that required in Cha-Nan Area. Low amount of shear walls and high axial load of columns are the two major reasons for the high percentage of school buildings not satisfy the aseismic capacity requirement.
