自然殺手細胞是自然免疫作用的一種巨核白血球,會對腫瘤細胞產生毒胞作用,因此對癌症的發生與腫瘤細胞的轉移有抑制效果。 短時間單次運動會增進循環血液中自然殺手細胞的百分率、每個自然殺手細胞的毒胞鷹用和整體毒胞作用;而衰竭性耐力運動則會自然殺手細胞的毒胞作用,並降低細胞百分比,但此一作用往往在運動後24小時以內便回復到原來水準。 中等運動強度的訓練可以提升自然殺手細胞的毒胞作用;高強度的耐力訓練則會抑制自然殺手細胞的免疫功能。 運動影響自然殺手細胞的機轉可能是透過運動後細胞激素的分泌、荷爾蒙的變化、體溫的上升等因素而產生的。
