Since the American Library Association and Library Association of United Kingdom built,
and monitored systems as well as standards of library operations in the late 1880s, the librarianship
has gradually developed. However, in the past years, as information science emerged and
technology revolution had large impacts, many library schools changed their names from
liabrarianship to information science, information management, and information services etc. In
addition, about fourteen schools in the United States closed. This article tries to search for the
definition and implication of current librarianship through the following ways. One is to find out
meaning and missions of current library. Another is to describe and discuss the related disciplines of
librarianship.
