Because the problems of air pollution are getting worse, the prevalence of chronic obstructive pulmonary disease (COPD) is increasing gradually. COPD can not be cured, but the appropriate management and nursing interventions can decrease re-admission rate, reduce the cost of hospitalization and elevate the patient's quality of life. The nursing interventions can be summarized as follows: 1. Accurate respiratory care can prevent complications and promote recovery. 2. Appropriate nutritional support can prevent infection, help to wean from the ventilator, reinforce the strength of respiratory muscle and decrease mortality rate. 3.providing the knowledge of home care to patients and their families can increase the patients' independence and decrease the caretakers' burden and the management of physio-psycho-social adapation problems can advance clients' coping strength.
