With the popularity of the Internet and the World Wide Web (WWW), electronic publishing (i.e., E-publishing) has become the most talked about topic by professionals in the communication industries. Electronic publishing is different from traditional publishing in terms of its message transmission, storage, and presentation. By means of either on-line or offline methods, electronic publications are delivered to readers' terminals at a lower cost and a faster speed. This article introduces three most popular forms of electronic publications: on-line newspapers and magazines, and on-line government publications. It also discusses the status of on-line publications around the world. A through listing of current on-line publication web locations is provided to allow readers to have a hand-on experience with electronic publications. Finally, effects of E-publishing on advertising and newspaper industries and the society are examined.
