Archival appraisal is a process of the archival repository during selection of archives. It is an essential archival function in an archival repository. The Black Box Appraisal Model was developed by Frank Boles and Julia Marks Young in 1985. This Model is seperated into 3 modules. Each module is comprised of several elements that should be considered when making an appraisal decision. This article mainly discusses the contents of Black Box Appraisal Model. In addition, the resultes of the New York Public Library participated in the field testing of the Model is described.
