This article is an attempt to prompt the transportation planners in our country to reflect upon what we have done in the field of transit planning over the past decade. It begins by revisiting the often forgotten history of how the "Taipei Mucha Medium Capacity Transit Line" came into being: a political process that lacked respect for professional planning input; it warns against the use of transit systems that have high levels of patented technologies; it calls for courage in government to conduct a complete review of the mass transit plans for other cities in Taiwan; and it calls for reflection on the role of professional transport planners as it differs from that of a transport academic, analyst or engineer.
