This essay is a study of the Song edition of The Works of Liu Yuxi in the National Palace Museum (the NPM edition). The introduction gives a brief account of the three existing Song editions. The second section examines the NPM edition in terms of layout, column, carver, euphemism, stamp, order preface, and postface. This is followed by an investigation of the transmission of the edition in question-from the Studio of Huaxia Zhenshang 華夏真賞齋 to the National Palace Museum. Regarding the date and place of its publication, a comparison of the text with Ming manuscripts reveals that this edition is not Dong Fen's 董弅,edition, nor is it a reprint of Lu You's edition. Published around 1160 at Hangzhou, the NPM edition is in fact a descendant of the Dong's edition. Finally, the essay concludes with a comparative study of the three Song editions, highlighting the importance of the NPM edition to textual criticism.
