The purpose of this study was to investigate the current situation of tests application in elementary schools in Taiwan. There were 122 schools answered the questionnaires. According to the reply of these schools, at least 30% of the elementary schools did not administer any test in the student guidance work in the past two years. The findiings of the study are as follows:1. At present there are totally 85 standardized tests which may be used in elementary schools children in Taiwan. About 44 of them have been used in the past two years. As the nature of tests, the intelligence test is the kind that has been used most frequently, the personality test is the second one. 2. The most often happened problem in applying tests in no enough personnel in the school guidance center, and the other problem is that guidance teachers have no enough training in testing. 3. The first priority of need for developing the new kind of test for elementary school to use is the intelligence test, and the personality test is the second order. The revision which is the most urgently in need of is the norms of Raven's tests. 4. The most frequently used test is Raven's Color Progressive Matrices, the second one is Raven's Standard Progressive Matrices, and Wechsler Intelligence Scale for Children-Revised is the third.
