Chang Tso-lin has long been deemed as the running-dog of Japanese imperialist, but this stereotype has been challenged by recent researchs. During Chang's dominance on the Peking Government, 1926-1928, he strived very hard to gain the favour of Britain. This research on the activities of his two major British Advisors, W. H. Donald and F. A. Sutton, may help us to undestand more about the complex relations between Chinese Warlords and Foreign Powers in the early Republican period.
