When someone is being treated for cancer in a hospital his family members face a great deal of pressures. This case report looks at the coping mechanisms used by primary caregivers--how they endured the pressures of caring for a cancer patient. The writer is the primary nurse of the patient. She collaborated with the caregivers to collect the data, then she arranged and analyzed it. As a result, she found out that the caregivers changed their lifestyle due to the pressures of financial burdens and emotions involved in facing the imminent death of a loved one. To cope with these feelings of loss, sadness, anger and anxiety they seek information. The nurse not only takes care of the physical needs of the patient, but she plays the role of supporter, communicator and listener. By doing so she helps the patient's family face the pressures and helps them adopt the appropriate ways to release their pressures.
