This article discusses the prospects of the Federal Depository Library Program (FDLP) in the United States. The conventional FDLP is based on centralized creation and dissemination of government information through GPO. The developments of information technologies, particularly Internet, has dramatically impact on FDLP. The operation of FDLP will be changed from centralization to decentralization. This article provides an overview in five areas, i.e. the factors affect FDLP development, the development of electronic depository library program, the paradigm shift from FDLP to electronic depository library, the status of physical depository library, and the reactions of depository librarians to the electronic depository library.
