作者認為"圖書館"係機構，"情報"是事物，作為學科名稱"圖書館與情報學"是似
是而非的組合；同時，都用 Information 的情報與信息，和都用 Information Science 的
情報學與信息科學， 極易造成混亂與不清，因此不如改為 " 文獻信息管理學 "，此名稱揭
示了這一學科的本質特性。

The author holds that as "library" is a kind of institution and
"information" is a kind of thing. Being a disciplinary name, "Library and
Information Science" is a specious combination. Moreover, the use
of"information" for "qingbao"( 情報 )and "Xinxi"( 信息 ) in Chinese and
"information science" for "qingbao science" and "xinxi science" in Chinese has
confused the library and information circle of the Mainland China. Therefore, it
is appropriate to replace "library and information science" with "documents and
information management science", which brings to light the basic characteristics
of this discipline.
