　　　　　Children's classification of television programs in terms of genre has been depicted as a significant aspect of child development. Many studies propose that children organize the world of television into genres based on perceived reality. Perceived reality, in particular, has been hypothesized as an important mediator of television effects. Since many researchers agree that the concepts of television reality are multidimensional, the present research focuses closely on children's talk and the meanings they make about television reality. Future research should examine how individual differences in perceived reality interact with the television viewing context.
