This paper investigates the use of the term "Ping-Kung-K'e" as used to describe category of the traditional Chinese Civil Service Examination, and also provides and example to show the relationship between "Jin-Shi" and "Ping-Kung-K'e". According to the use of the term "Jia- Ke", it is shown that "Ping-Kung" refers to a portion of the "Ke-Ji" Civil Service Examination system. Furthermore, this paper discusses the actual meaning of the saying of Xue Deng:"The emperor Yang receiving the preccdents of former emperors changed them and established the institution of "Jin-Shi" and other levels of examination. "The conclusions of this paper are in contradiction to the views previously expressed by Professor Zhang Bao San.
