The story "knotting grass given as recompense" originated from a ghost dream, which was excerpted from Tzuoo-Juann. The dreamer, Wei-Kurt, dreamt and old man approaching to state his reason for giving knotting grass as a reward for the sake of his daughter. This touching story stirred the conscience of the intelligentsia. In addition, the ghost's compensation for a service had been regarded as an example illustrating that reward for good is to be given privately this life. Are there other conceptualization or implications suggested by this story, in addition to the commonly acknowledged interpretation? The main purpose of this article aims to identify the feeling of the dreamer as well as the dream decipherer and take cognizance of their diverse cultures and values by urging different interpretations from various perspectives.
