Romantic Literature in Light of Bakhtin is the latest monograph by Professor Water L. Reed from Emory University. Established in the present theoretical context, it is a synthetic application of Bakhtin’s ideas, including his philosophical, aesthetic, linguistic and literary theories, in re-reading Romanticism. Its author has achieved a unique re-examination and creative reconstruction of the theoretical legacy concerning ontology, subjectivity and genre studies of Romantic literature. Apart from being a fruitful attempt at concrete application of Bakhtin’s ideas in literary studies, this monograph is also an enrichment of methodological framework in studies of Romantic literature, exploring a new path toward redefining the literary tradition in the post-theoretic era.
