Based on the field observation of the green transformation of the iron-grid processing businesses in Liucun Village of Dingzhou City, Heibei Province, this paper analyzes the development history of this industry and the enterprises’ environmental behavior change. It is found that:firstly, the relationship between the growth of small and micro enterprises in rural areas and the environmental impact that they have brought forms the shape of an inverse U;Furthermore, the environmental behavior changes of the iron-grid processing businesses are directly related to changes in various phases including the processing techniques, the environmental influences and the business owners’ environmental awareness;Meanwhile, mandatory policies of the environmental protection control made by the local government is the primary external force to push rural small and micro enterprises towards the green growth; However, the biggest obstacle for rural small and micro enterprises to achieve a green transformation lies in the profit space being squeezed by the cost of environmental protection.
