Based on the review of the concept of "traditional dwelling," as well as its research progress and research status in China, this paper discusses the reference and approach of Chinese traditional dwellings research drawing from rural settlement research in other disciplines. It argues that Chinese traditional dwelling research is no longer a single disciplinary research, but interdisciplinary research; the research content is no longer limited to a static description of isolated monomers, but tends to take both synchronic and diachronic research strategies simultaneously; the research method is no longer content with the architectonics picture description and surveying and mapping, but tends to be an open and comprehensive study.
