In 2008~2017, the archaeological studies related to the Pre-Qin period have achieved significant results. Research has been carried out surrounding new discoveries and, therefore, leads to new conclusions. Discoveries and research related to the Early and Middle Palaeolithic period focused primarily on the foothills and basins along the two flanks of the Qinling mountains. Discoveries related to Palaeolithic archaeology on the two banks of the Yellow River in southeastern part of Shaanbei focused primarily on the Late Palaeolithic period and its transition to the Neolithic period. In the past decade, the Neolithic archaeology works surrounding the three mega-scale national archaeological sites: Shimao in Shaanbei, Yangguanzhai in Guanzhong, and Longgangsi in Shaannan were centered on several major research aims, such as settlement archaeology and processes of social complexity as well as origins of civilization. Meanwhile, related research have also enhanced the chronology and cultural frameworks within the region and lead to new progress in the field of archaeological science.
