In May through November 2014, the Shaanxi Provincial Institute of Archaeology and other institutions conducted a joined excavation at the Chongpingyuan site, which is located at the Chongpingyuan village in Danzhou town, Yichuan county, Yan’an city. Within the site, twenty-one tombs, one chariot-and-horse pit, three ash pits, and two ditches were excavated. More than 110 artifacts were unearthed, including bronzes, pottery, jades, stones and bone implements. The remains showed that the date of the residential site was contemporary to the cemetery, both belonging to the early Spring-andAutumn period. The archaeological assemblages at the Chongyuanping site present similar characteristics to the Jin culture in the eastern bank of the Yellow river. The excavation of the Chongyuanping site provided important materials to further explore the archaeological culture during the Zhou dynasties in this region.
