Introduction to Library and Information Science written by Dr. YU Liangzhi,is a significant work of Library Science and Information Science(LIS). However,it is conservative to adopt this Chinese subject name for LIS. By exploring the selection of Chinese name for LIS from the aspects of visual impression,lexical meaning,core subject content,and subject development,this article finds out that,in Chinese context,current Chinese names for LIS cannot completely cover and accurately express the research missions and fields of the subject, and then bring no benefits to improve the social cognition and the popularity of LIS.
