As an indispensable part of age-old Chinese culture,religious ritual carries the traditions from the Chou Rituals to earthliness and serves as a bridge connecting the change between man and God,between man and nature,and between man and man. In this procedure, ritual plays a crucial role. Taking the Tima ritual of Tujia Minority as an example,this paper,from the perspectives of anthropology and semiotics,elaborates the importance and the symbolic and functional characteristics of Tima ritual music in Tujia Minority culture.
