本論文透過對亞裔移民女性的身體書寫之分析,意圖探究其位於邊緣位置與移民國之間的認同策略。隨著西方國家對於少數族裔研究之興起,關於移民女性的議題之探討也在潮流中,而身為第三世界亞裔女性,她們特殊的生命經驗與身體移置(displacement),應是學術研究不可忽略的一環。職是,本論文所選取研究的對象包括擁有雙重或多重跨國經驗的亞裔女性創作者,本文涵蓋兩位亞裔女性作家,以她們的代表著作為研究對象;另外兩位藝術家則是以她們的數件作品為討論焦點。本文研究對象包括:印裔美籍女作家穆克杰(Bharati Mukherjee) 的《茉莉》(Jasmine 1989),韓裔美籍女作家車學敬(Theresa Hak Kyung Cha) 的《聽寫》(Dictée 1982);在視覺藝術方面的研究對象則以烏干達出身,後因政治迫害而定居英國的印裔女性藝術家敏菊(Zarina Bhimji),以及台灣出生,後移居美國從事網路創作的華裔藝術家鄭淑麗(Shu Lea Cheang) 為代表,期以她們作品中的身體書寫與藝術再現,分析亞裔女性如何譯介她們的記憶、性別、國族以及個人之身分認同。
本論文由比較文學中的族裔研究與女性研究之發展,闡明第三世界女性研究刻不容緩之重要性。文中回顧了身體書寫與邊緣論述兩個理論的重要發展,筆者整理西方女性主義的身體書寫理論,由存在主義女性主義的「他者」(other)出發,透過對西方女性主義所提出的身體書寫反映出對族裔與文化的欠缺考量,因此,第三世界女性主義者,如:鄭明河(T. Minh-ha Trinh)提出了「器官書寫」(organic writing)與「營養書寫」(nurturing-writing)、史碧娃克(Gayatri Chakravorty Spivak)提出以女性身體經驗為基礎的「策略本質論」(strategic essentialism)等,為第三世界女性的身體書寫填補空缺,此外,筆者亦加入身體與空間的探討,從中衍生出來的權力關係是第三世界女性面臨「移置」時,必須面對的課題。針對邊緣論述的部份,筆者整理分析後現代主義與後殖民主義理論家所提出的見解,包括胡珂斯(bell hooks)的「選擇邊緣作為基進開放的空間」、鄭明河的「移置是唯一的生存之道」、史碧娃克的「穿梭其中,保持移置的精神」以及巴巴(Homi K. Bhabha)所提出的「第三空間」的跨界演出,進行對史學霸權的抵抗。筆者整合此兩種理論可資運用於本文分析的方式,藉以提出第三世界女性之為西方世界中所謂「她/他者」的地位,如何在邊緣的位置上展現其位移的精神做為融合、抵抗、尋求或是跨越認同的策略。
本論文秉持比較文學跨領域、跨學科的精神,提出文學文本與藝術文本可供比較與閱讀的研究價值,此兩者雖有形式上的差異,但筆者發現第三世界/亞裔女性創作者對於議題的關注卻是多有交集,因而形成互相對話的連結。論文討論了穆可杰作品《茉莉》的身體書寫現象與策略,以茉莉化身為卡莉女神的身體轉換意義,探討第三世界女性在自我行動力的實踐與流動主體認同之間的變化;車學敬的作品《聽寫》中外來語言的學習而產生的舌頭糾結與身體排斥所造成的身份認同之傷害,唯有透過歷史回溯與家國/個人的對話,身體/心靈之傷害方能療癒;敏菊作品中對於來到異地的處境,以身體器官或排泄物的創作來表達第三世界女性被邊緣對待的情況,試圖在邊緣的位置中找到另一替代的發聲空間;最後則分析鄭淑麗以網路創作提供第三世界女性不必拘限於地域疆界的影響,重新獲得身體自主權的創作策略。筆者認為,在後殖民的語境下,身為第三世界/亞裔女性所使用的身體書寫有著包括後現代的抵抗、挪用、去中心的概念,她們的認同策略不必然是純粹的後殖民,亦可尋見其後現代精神,更重要的是,她們或者不意圖顛覆或是翻轉,她們的身體書寫其實顯現出邊緣的力量以及不斷位移的適應策略。
透過這四位亞裔女性的作品,本論文在性別的研究上,將有別於西方女性主義所提倡的,以白人為主的女性研究,關照到世界上被忽略的其他女性聲音;在身體書寫上,傳承第三世界/亞裔女性最切身關連的經驗,身體成了最具潛力的發展主題;在族裔的研究上,亞裔的研究將破除西方世界中原本對亞裔移民的刻板印象,再塑亞裔族群的主體性;而在比較文學的研究上,跨文化、跨領域、跨國族或是跨性別的研究得以在本論文中做一整合。這些被視為「土著報導人」的亞裔移民女性在西方世界知識體系下的運作策略,顯示出她們有權成為消弭、模糊、穿梭「中心—邊緣」界限的代言人,而她們精彩的身體與生命經驗,為當代文化的光譜發展,增添更多有色人種的言論與創作契機。
