This study examined the difference of reflectivity strategy and acquired handicap on fear of failure, causal uncertainty, and external attribution according to self- worth theory. Data were collected from 596 nursing students and analyzed by competing model, structural equation model, simultaneous analysis of several groups, and latent growth model. The results of this study were as follows: (1) indirect effect model was the fittest model, (2) the research model fitted the observed data well, (3)for high/low improvement probability groups, two sub-models revealed different patterns and paths, and (4)latent growth model revealed the increasing emotional obsession of defensive pessimist for two years. Implications for theory, practice and research are discussed.
Keywords: acquired handicapping strat egy, casual uncertainty, external attribution, fear of failure,
probability of improvement , reflective strategy.
