本研究是一個試驗性研究，主要以宗教傾向量表與生活滿意度爲研究工具，以六十五歲以上居住於老人公寓之長者，以及在校大學生爲樣本，探討有宗教信仰之台灣老人與大學生之內發與外誘宗教動機、以內發與外誘宗教動機對受訪者生活滿意度之影響。本研究發現，宗教傳統與年齡都是影響信徒內發與外誘宗教動機傾向的主要變項；而宗教動機與宗教傳統也都會影響生活滿意度，動機傾向內發的信徒，他們的生活滿意度與內發動機成正相關；反之，動機傾向外誘者，生活滿意度也會與外誘動機有正相關。
This pilot study examined the relationship between intrinsic-extrinsic orientation and religious affiliation, as well as intrinsic-extrinsic orientation and life satisfaction in young and older popular religious followers, Buddhists, Catholics and Protestants. Measures included Allport and Rose' (1967) Religious Orientation Inventory and the Satisfaction With Life Scale (Diener, Emmons, Larsen ＆ Griffin, 1986). Results indicated that religious tradition and age were related to religious orientation, meanwhile, religious tradition, religious orientation were both related to life satisfaction positively.
