現代社會面臨著一個快速發展和快速變遷的全球化世界。由於中部科學工業園區（簡稱中科）的迅速籌設，讓其周遭地區在短時間內被迫面臨大規模的都市開發，對當地人產生相當大的衝擊。本文的目的在於探索全球他的作用之下，都市發展與生活品質二者之間的關係。我們觀察中科所在的西屯與大雅地區，比較年長與年輕世代在地居民的住宅選擇，探究居民對於地方生活品質的評價。本研究的主要發現如下：第一，對地方的情感是影響年長世代住宅選擇的主要因素。雖然年長者相對於年輕者，在生理上與心理上都更容易遭受住宅環境快速變動的衝擊，但卻依然傾向居住在對他們而言具有強烈情感與依附的地方。第二，有別於年長世代，年輕世代也關心都市發展對於居住環境的交通與經濟效益；中科帶來地方的發展與成長，是他們更容易接受居住環境快速變動的原因。最後，我們建議政府或相關單位在規劃都市發展時，若能有效維繫或重新建立地方的情感連結，將有助於提升在地居民對生活品質的感受，達到永續發展的目標。

Modern societies must address a fast-developing and fast-changing global world. The sudden advent of the Central Taiwan Science Park (the CTSP) forced the area to go through a large-scale urban development in a short period of time and to a great extent affect the living conditions of local residents. This paper aims to explore the relationship between urban development and quality of life of the residents under the impact of globalization. We observe Xitun and Daya Districts where the CTSP is stationed, and compare housing choices of the residents, in particular, between the older and younger generations. Our main findings are as follows. Firstly place attachment is the major factor in affecting the housing choices of the elderly. Although the elderly are, physically and psychologically, more subject to the fast changes of urban residential environment than the young people, they prefer to stay put due to their strong emotional attachment and identity with the local places. Secondly young people are easier to accept the vast changes of urban environment as the price for the progress of the society. And they also concern about the traffic and economic benefit of the housing in the future. Finally we suggest that the government should take into account in policy-making the effect of globalization on the integration of the community which is substantially important for the local residents to maintain their quality of life.
