Many poets wrote poems to say goodbye to their loved ones, and Yuxi Liu's the poems given to 24 departing Buddhist masters should be placed under this category. However, talking about the goodbye poems, the researchers seldom pick Yuxi Liu's poems and they didn't regard his poems highly. When relating Yuxi Liu to Buddhism, the researchers only chose the beginning portion of his poem or pick at most two verses, and they rarely selected his entire poem for study. Che Huang pointed out in the chapter seven of his Cricket Creek poetry that two poets often wrote their poems citing the essence of Buddhism, which were quite different from the ways employed by other poets. One of the poets was Yuxi Liu, who put down "everything comes and goes and this parting is no exception" in his poem given to Master Jun Suo Another one was Dongpo Su who wrote "this moment is no different from the past, so why bother talking so much?" Yuxi Liu's poems cover the subjects of Buddhism and Zen, and his poems are not regarded highly from the artistic standpoint. One of reasons was that when writing poems to the departing Buddhist masters. he used too many Buddhistterms and employedtoo many words.Another reason was that under many circumstances it was very difficult for Yuxi to compose the poems filled with Zen Flavor. Yuxi preferred not to describe his personal feelings in his poems, and instead he portrayed more about the departing persons and those parting moments. He did write poems for his good friends, however, he also wrote many poems for those who were not his friends and didn't know much about Buddhism, and who had the sole intention of receiving a poem from a famous poet. Yuxi Liu cited many Buddhist scriptures and used the language of enlightenment in the poems given to the Buddhist masters, and these poems were filled with dignified images of Buddhism which were hardly ever exploited by other poets before. Yuxi Liu did convey his profound understanding of Buddhism in such a truthful and objective way. and he also moo to share all these by keeping a safe distance.
