One of the most significant changes in the paradigm of business management is the fact that individual business no longer compete as solely autonomous entities, but rather as supply chains. Supply chain integration has been elevated to a strategy level for sustainable competitive advantage.
Based on theory, the research model of partnerships (trust, flexibility and commitment) — external supply chain integration competency(customer focused, information integration, supplier integration, measurement integration) — organizational performance(logistics performance, financial performance) was identified. A survey of information and electronic industry in Taiwan was undertaken in order to examine the research model, utilizing LISREL.
The results of this research can be summarized as follows: flexibility demonstrated a positive association with customer focused competency; a direct positive relationship between commitment and information integration competency was established; trust and commitment affect supplier integration competency; customer focused, information integration and measurement integration competency affect logistics performance; a direct positive relationship between supplier integration and financial performance; flexibility demonstrated a positive association with logistics and financial performance; and external supply chain integration competency plays a moderated role between partnerships and performance. The findings of this research can provide industry the reference to select the proper partnerships and supply chain integration competency to raise the performance and building sustained competitive advantage.
