題名:台灣製造業獲利變異解析之研究

本文以變異數解析法分析1994到2000年台灣製業獲利之重要影響因子。實證模型具體探討年效果、產業效果、公司效果、事業單位效果以及產業和年交互影響效果對於事業單位會計獲利的相對重要程度。本文發現事業單位效果對於台灣企業獲利變異的影響力比其他效果來得重要,此結果和美國的研究相符。其次,相較於美國,本文發現年浮動的產業效果對台灣企業獲利變異的影響較大,可能是由於自1990年代,台灣製造業為因應投資環境的轉變,產業加速對外投資,導致產業結構變動加速,進而對獲利造成影響。本文研究認為在快速改變的經營環境下,台灣企業各事業單位的競爭優勢對台灣企業獲利有更大的影響力。
另外,本文發現各項效果對製造業四大產業(金屬機械工業、資訊電子工業、化學工業、民生工業)之企業獲利變異的影響有明顯地差異。公司效果和穩定的產業效果對資訊電子工業之企業獲利變異的影響程度較其他產業大;在民生工業不論是穩定的產業效果抑或是年浮動的產業效果對獲利變異之解釋極有限。此外,在剔除整體製造業中“異常公司” (價值創造者和落後者) 後,研究結果指出穩定之產業效果提高,而事業單位效果降低。研究結果顯示雖然1994-2000年台灣製造業之產業結構變化激烈,然而,排除異常公司後,產業效果對台灣製造業之一般企業獲利的變異,仍具有顯著的影響力。
This study examines the relative importance of year, industry, corporate, business unit, and transient industry effects on Taiwan business unit profitability between the years 1994 and 2000. Consistent with previous studies, our results indicate that in Taiwan business unit effects are considerably more important to profitability than other effects. When compared to the United States, we find that transient industry effects are more important to profitability in Taiwan, inasmuch as Taiwan manufacturing faced changes in its management environment when industrial investment transferred to Mainland China during the 1990s. This transfer resulted in a rapid change in Taiwan’s industry structure that affected profitability. Our findings suggest that Taiwanese firms cannot control the structural factors of industry within the rapidly changing management environment. This may indicate that the competitive advantages of the business unit have a relatively larger influence on firm profitability in Taiwan than in the U.S.
We also find that the importance of various effects (except for year effects) differs significantly across four manufacturing sub-industries: the metal machinery industry, the petrochemical industry, the information and electronics industry, and the livelihood industry. Corporate effects and stable industry effects are more important in the information and electronics industry than in any of the other three manufacturing sub-industries. In addition, stable and transient industry effects account for a quite low proportion of total variance in the livelihood industry. In addition, we find that industry effects increase and business unit effects decrease when the manufacturing industry’s outliers (values leaders and values losers) are discarded. Our finding suggest that the industry structure of Taiwan manufacturing changes rapidly between 1994-2000, for those that are not leaders or losers in manufacturing, however, the industry effects have a significant impact on business unit profitability in Taiwan manufacturing.
