Exhibitions are a type of market activity that were previously conducted mainly to disperse information and that are currently conducted to connect people through information. The key to modern exhibition curating is the “connection” through information technology, as well as the contexts and situations for resonance that are conferred by these changes. Furthermore, the “identification and contact” facilitated through exhibitions must be established on the foundation of mutual resonance. This study examined the personal characteristics and professional training of curators and the communication of core content through cultural and creative curatorial behavior from the perspective of phenomenology and external visual aesthetics in order to identify key factors and necessary conditions for effective exhibitions. This study is intended to provide reference indicators for facilitating greater success by curators in planning cultural and creative exhibition events.
According to the purpose of this research, the specific objectives of this study were as follows. The first stage of this study examined the theoretical model of attractiveness evaluation and decision making of cultural and creative exhibition curating. The second stage investigated the varied situations of attractiveness evaluations of cultural and creative curation of diverse types in order to assist curators in design interpretation implementation. The third stage assessed the exhibition patterns of creative industries and professional resource integration methods of curation in order to identify audience attractiveness factors to be used as the basis for curator exhibition decision making and as a reference for future training of professional personnel. Understanding the value added factors that attract audience to participate in exhibitions enables exhibitions with cultural and creative activities to attract visitors and encourage them to personally involve themselves in and experience the attractiveness of exhibitions. The main research problems were as follows. The first involved the examination of the assessment dimensions of cultural and creative exhibition attractiveness evaluation and model construction. The second involved understanding the perception of qualia experiences by audience members participating in cultural and creative exhibition activities. The third was clarifying the differences in the attractiveness evaluation and decision dimensions of audience members with different demographic backgrounds toward cultural and creative exhibits. The fourth is analyzing how cultural and creative exhibitions implement the strategic operation of curating plans.
The results of this study are as follows. First, daily life and aesthetics were identified as crucial factors contributing to the capacity of cultural and creative industries to drive social and economic development; cultural and creative industries can improve cultural refinement, enrich the lives of people, and have the potential to create wealth and opportunities for employment. Second, this study conducted evaluation analysis of attractiveness factors and affective involvement through audience qualia experiences and found a correlation between information processing, message attitudes, participatory actions, and reaction feedback, which form audience attractiveness evaluations and decision-making models. Third, this study found that differences in audience participation were caused primarily by differences in information sources, followed by educational attainment, then age and other demographic factors. As such, this study recommends that these factors be considered when planning for cultural and creative exhibitions. Fourth, this study found that the visual design and guide service aspects of attractiveness factor exploration require strengthening to attract audience attention and trust, thus improving the service capability of providing accurate information and knowledge to the audience. Fifth, this study examined cultural and creative curating design for qualia experiences and strategic operation and thinking for practical implementation and found that the design implementation of cultural and creative exhibitions includes the five following factors. First, the fusion of affective experiences of cultural creativity and life aesthetics produce a close commonality between media and its purposes, thus broadening the tremendous influence of cultural atmospheres. Second, “word-of-mouth value” highlights the promotion advantages of cultural and creative exhibition curating; placing an emphasis on increasing innovative energy and word-of-mouth accumulation is a method for continually expanding the influence of exhibition themes that is worthy of consideration. Third, the qualia experiences of cultural and creative exhibitions should have appropriate core and secondary planning strategies. Fourth, the attractiveness factors of various types of cultural and creative exhibitions possess interactive commonalities and learning linkages. Finally, the search convenience and exposure of information sources are key factors in decisions producing high degrees of audience participation.
Contemporary Taiwanese curatorial ecology and development are trending toward development in creative domains. The academic contributions of this study are as follows. First, affective experiences and life aesthetic theories under cultural and creative industry qualia experiences are coherent with audience attractiveness factor evaluations and measures of affective involvement, which highlight the characteristics of cultural and creative exhibition curating design implementation. Second, the development of qualia experiences, attractiveness factor exploration, affective involvement, and behavioral decision theory provide both academic and practical research value. Practical industry applications are the development of cultural and creative exhibition attractiveness evaluations and decision-making testing as evaluative tools for measuring exhibition effectiveness, and the use of strategic operation principles of cultural and creative curating design to assist the planning direction of curating design. The applications for policy and practices are the induction of concrete strategic operations by curators planning exhibition events. This will facilitate the development of long-term objective indicator meaning and help various types of cultural and creative industry exhibition events obtain a greater degree of practicality and reference value, thus assisting the development of future curator talent and the establishment of professional educational training curricula.
