The economic production quantity (EPQ) model assumes that the raw materials required for production are timely, that is, the raw materials are purchased at the beginning of the cycle. In fact, factors such as weather, transportation and political issues change the holding cost of raw materials, and they should be included in the total relevant cost.
This dissertation uses Lin''s (2010) concept of holding costs of raw materials to develop four innovative and detailed EPQ models based on Chung’s (2013) and Srivastava et al.’s (2018) two-level trade credit and limited storage capacity models, and consider the holding costs of non-deteriorating and deteriorating raw materials. The research framework considers a two-level approach, that is, from “supplier-retailer-customer” to “supplier-manufacturercustomer (retailer)” and calculates the annual total relevant costs that are incurred from the perspective of the manufacturer. The four theorems for determining the optimal cycle time and the total relevant costs are developed using cost minimization. Finally, sensitivity analyses are used to investigate the effects of the parameters on ordering policies.
