AStudy of Shandong Sanqu in the Yuan Dynasty
Abstract
Inthe Yuan Dynasty, after Mongolian cavalry invaded and occupied China, Chinesesociety encountered the impact of diverse civilizations, and Chinese literaturewas also facing a radical change. Withthe rise of civilian class, popular literature leapt into the mainstream,especially Sanqu. It became the representativeliterature, equivalent to Han Fu, Tang Poetry, Song Ci.
Atthe end of the Jin Dynasty and the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty, due topolitical stability and economic recovery, Shandong created a good material environmentfor the development of literature and art, and had a gathering of talents, soit became one of the important towns of northern Quxue. From the beginning of the Yuan Dynasty to theend of it, the group of Sanqu writers in Shandong had a keen eye and caringheart to observe the world. The thingswritten and the human feelings contained in those Sanqu works were thepresentation of history, which recorded the splendor and decline of the YuanDynasty.
Thisthesis is divided into six chapters. The first chapter is the introduction, whichputs forward the problemic, establishes the research scope and the research methodsadopted, and anticipates the results and the research limitations. The second chapter is the background of theYuan Dynasty, which is investigated from the aspects of politics and society,economy and people’s livelihood, ideology and religion, and refined and popularliterature, in order to understand the era implication of Yuan Sanqu creation. The third chapter refers to the regional overviewof Shandong in the Yuan Dynasty, summarizes the background of Shandong in the YuanDynasty, shows Shandong’s humanistic characteristics and the face of the timesof Shandong, and introduces the life, space-time distributions and regionalcomparisons of Shandong Sanqu writers. The fourth chapter focuses on the themes of Shandong Sanqu in the YuanDynasty, starting from the qualitative nature of the themes of Yuan Sanqu, andthen with quantitative research to investigate the theme development ofShandong Sanqu and to explore its ideological connotation. The fifth chapter is about the form ofShandong Sanqu in the Yuan Dynasty, which analyzes the presentation andcharacteristics of Shandong Sanqu system, rhyme, chenzi, language and writingskills. The sixth chapter, whichsummarizes the research of each chapter, concludes that Shandong Sanqu in the YuanDynasty highlighted the humanistic characteristics of benevolence andcontingency. The group of Shandong Sanquwriters not only expanded the composition lineup of Yuan Sanqu and enriched theideological connotation of it, but also laid a solid foundation for thecreation and development of Shandong Sanqu in the Ming Dynasty and even Ming Sanqu.
