Establishing a proper supply chain strategy to gain a competitive advantage is important for business enterprises because the competition model is no longer the one among companies but supply chains. In addition, the sustainable development of supply chain has become significant and been increasingly advocated in recent years. For this, business enterprises have now focused on profits as well as their performances in environmental friendliness, social responsibility, and economic contributions.
However, few past research has proposed an integrated strategy process for sustainable supply chain, according to Main-Path analysis and relative literature reviews. This is the main aspect, or research gap, that the author would like to supplement in this paper with the aim to develop a strategy process for sustainable supply chain. Three specific perspectives are described as follows:
● to propose a strategy process for sustainable supply chain,
● to classify various strategies and performance indicators for sustainable supply chain, and
● to illustrate the proposed strategy process through a case study.
The research methodology, the abductive reasoning process, is used for classification of various strategies, and the MCDM is used to analyze the proposed strategy process in different phases. The SWOT analysis is first suggested for understanding environmental opportunities, as well as the USED analysis is often used to output innovative opportunities. And AHP approach is used to evaluate the importance of the objective. Next, the DEMATEL is used to assess the correlations among performance drivers. In addition, the E-GRA is utilized to prioritize sustainable supply chain strategies. Furthermore, the KPI that includes four categories of time, cost, efficiency, and effectiveness is submitted by this paper. A total of 75 detailed dimensions are classified for performance measurement. In practice, different industries should select properly KPIs by SMART method to position themselves for obtaining better performances.
The main contribution is that a proposed strategy process for sustainable supply chain should include five phases of environmental scanning, objective formulation, strategy implementation, performance measurement, and continuous feedback based on OPDCA framework. Besides, the proposed strategy process can be comprehended and the importance of various strategies can be evaluated through a case study. The development of a strategy process is, thus, able to create values for sustainable supply chain members in practice. The other contribution is the submission of a strategy process to make up the insufficiency of past research that lack an integrated strategy process for sustainable supply chain.
