This Thesis attempts to investigate the critical factors that contribute to the resilience of Vietnam's textile and apparel industry's supply chain. As a swiftly expanding industry in the country, this sector is economically significant and plays a crucial role in the global value chain. Consequently, the purpose of this study is to identify and analyze the key determinants of supply chain resilience in this dynamic industry, casting light on potential strategies to enhance its capacity to withstand and recover quickly from disruptions. The current thesis examines the role of supply chain resilience in strengthening the association between two factors: absorptive capacity and entrepreneurial orientation. This research also examines the mediating role of supply chain resilience in firm performance’s relationship with absorptive capacity and entrepreneurial orientation.
Vietnam is considered a developing country, which has a potential market for foreign investors as well as domestic investors. In recent years, Vietnam has risen to become one of the world's leading exporters of garments and textiles. In 2020, based on export revenue, garments and textiles were among its most important exports. In recent years, Vietnam's textile and apparel industry has witnessed remarkable growth, establishing itself as a major player on the global market. However, the industry encounters numerous obstacles, such as supply chain disruptions resulting from economic fluctuations, and pandemics. To ensure sustained growth and competitiveness, it is essential to comprehend and strengthen the supply chain resilience within this industry.
This study bridges the gap between previous research and practice research on supply chain management, resilience, and the textile and apparel industry. By analyzing scholastic articles, industry reports, and case studies, this thesis identifies the key factors that contribute to the resilience of supply chains in this particular industry context in Vietnam. The proposed framework integrates concepts such as Absorptive Capacity, entrepreneurial orientation, and supply chain resilience in order to investigate their relationships and effects on firm performance. There are a total of two main enabled factors conducted in this study absorptive capacity and entrepreneurial orientation.
To accomplish the research objectives, qualitative data will be gathered by conducting in-depth interviews with industry experts, supply chain managers, and experts in the supply chain. These interviews will provide valuable insights into the industry's challenges for enhancing supply chain resilience. Second, quantitative data will be gathered via surveys administered to a representative sample of textile and apparel companies in Vietnam. A total of 412 sample sizes met the requirements required for data analysis. Regarding the quantitative method, used the partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to test the conceptual model. This study also conducted the techniques was multiple linear regression analysis due to the technique’s benefit enabling the author to demonstrate the influence of the independent variables on the dependent variable, furthermore helping to test the research hypotheses as well.
The findings show that entrepreneurial orientation and absorptive capacity positively correlate with firm performance under investigation and confirm the mediating role of supply chain resilience. Additionally, the indirect relationship highlighted the positive effect of two factors: entrepreneurial orientation and absorptive capacity. This research proposes significant theoretical and managerial implications by determining the impact of absorptive capacity and entrepreneurial orientation on SMEs in Vietnam's garment and textile industry. In Addition, this thesis will also examine practical implications for industry practitioners, policymakers, and researchers, providing actionable recommendations to enhance supply chain resilience in Vietnam's textile and garment industry. In terms of managerial implications, the findings highlighted the importance of the "absorptive capacity" and " entrepreneurial orientation " factors to SCR and firm performance.
