本文在本質上為實證研究。為分析國內商業銀行與信用合作社的成本結構，以尋求最有效的產出組合及資源配置方式，實證模型乃採用近十餘年來廣被採用的Ｔranslog成本函數，並根據所選取的變數，採用揉合橫剖面和時間序列資料（pooling of cross-section and time-series data）進行實證分析，其中分別計算商業銀行與信用合作社個別的規模經濟值、範圍經濟值及投入與產出間各項彈性值等，並對此二者加以比較其差異，作為判別銀行業與信用合作社競爭能力與經營效率之優劣勢，以供國內銀行業與信用合作社提升經營效率與競爭能力及政策當局研擬經濟與金融政策時之參考。

In order to analyze the cost structure of Taiwan commercial banks and credit cooperatives which can be used to identify the optimal product mix and effective resource allocation, this paper tries to calculate the size of scale economy, scope economy, elasticities of input demand and output elasticities. The procedure is carried out by estimating translog cost function via pooling of cross-section and time-series data. The results confirm several industrial economic theories and provide useful information to promote the competitiveness and operational efficiency for both domestic commercial banks and credit cooperatives.
